I have been teaching guitar for over 30 years and I enjoy teaching all ages. Besides guitar (electric, acoustic, nylon string), I also teach electric bass, music fundamentals, music composition, improvisation, songwriting, and much more. As already stated, my approach stresses understanding a mastery of "the basics" of musical knowledge and instrument-specific knowledge and skills -while adapting to the individual strengths/weaknesses and interests... of the individual students. Among other things, my approach emphasizes empowering students by quickly and efficiently imparting essential and useful knowledge and "real skills" that enable students to know and demonstrate, at will, music knowledge and ability. My teaching style is entirely student driven. Every student has different goals and different styles of learning. Because of this, the "cookie-cutter" approach many teachers take are ineffective. I take the time during the first lesson to ask the student what their short and long term goals are with their instrument, and from there I can start laying out a lesson plan.
