I love helping people learn music. I honestly believe that anyone can play an instrument with some work and everyone has a song to share. In 2012, I graduated from the University of Hawaii with a Bachelors Degree in Music Business. I started a band my junior year of high school called Local Uprising and we have traveled the states, opened up for some of the biggest reggae acts like Steel Pulse, Alpha Blondy, JBoog and Stephen Marley, we had #1 songs on radio and got nominated last year for Reggae Breakout Artist of the Year. Reading music is essential. To me musicians who don't know how to read music are like people who speak without undertsanding the meaning of the words they say. I also focus on ear training and understanding the instrument naturally, being that I feel its best for the player to have a mulititude of approaches to their understanding of their craft. My teaching method is entirely student driven. Every student has different goals and different styles of learning. Because of this, the "cookie-cutter" approach many teachers take are ineffective. I take the time during the first lesson to ask the student what their short and long term goals are with their instrument, and from there I can start laying out a lesson plan. As I have more lessons with the student, I can observe their learning style and adjust my teaching approach accordingly.  Read More

For beginners I usually start with Mel Bay Guitar Method, Book One or Hal Leonard Guitar Method One. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More
