I approach music from four perspectives in order to create an integrated foundation that caters to the learning methods of my students. My method is very simple: First and foremost I ask what kind of music my students like to listen to. Using this as a format I gradually add theoretical concepts to the extent the student is able to broaden his or her understanding of what they like. Third, I incorporate short bursts of technical exercices, utilizing a knowledge of the devolopment of muscle memory and gauging my student's individual capacity to absorb new information. Read More

I have taught through Musikalessons since 2004 and had taught in my own studio and private University settings for years before that. I have also taught elementary general music, 6 yrs; orchestra in elem, mid and high school, University String Project, community orcheatra (13 yrs); choir in Albuquerque Boy Choir (9 yrs), University chorus (8 yrs), public and parochial school choirs grades 2 thru 12 (12 years). I have studied music since childhood and continued with two professional degrees in music. My first degree is in Vocal Performance my second is in Music Education. I have been a part of a collegiate piano studio throughout my undergraduate degree. I have been playing classical guitar since childhood, but didn't study it in a collegiate setting. For beginning students no matter their ability level, I always introduce rhythms at the first couple lessons. Rhythm is one of the most important elements in music playing. Once they can recognize rhythms and count, we will start reading music notes then combing altogether along with playing and singing. I started songwriting in my senior year but it wasnt until attending college that I took it seriously and pursued a career in original music. I grew up always listening to old-school RB and hip-hop, due to my family background and experiencing life as a young black American, so this style of music has a big influence in my life.
