I began teaching privately in college. I also was a teacher assistant to a music teacher at a local elementary school during my undergraduate years. Now as a professional educator, I teach middle school choir, private piano/violin lessons, play for my church, and, at times, direct my church choir as well. At 7 years old I started taking formal piano lessons. I ended up going to college and majoring in Piano Performance. Performing in Europe came next for me after competing as a classical pianist. For beginner students who are children, I usually start with Faber Piano Adventures by Hal Leonard, Primer Level (lesson and theory). This will give them a basis of the fundamentals. I might incorporate a few pieces by rote for repertoire to keep their interest! Once they have a good foundation, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire that could be performed at recitals.
