I am someone that loves music and truly believes that anyone can learn music at any age! In 2017, I graduated from Loras College with a Bachelor of Art degree in K-12th grade Music Education with an emphasis on instrumental (I majored in Flute and minored in piano), but I also know a handful of woodwind instruments, and took singing lessons for 7 years. I’ve always admired saxophonists who seem completely at ease when they play. I’m inspired by musicians who can let go and enjoy the music as they produce it. I believe that this only comes from removing tension as we play. Knowing how to get the maximum result with minimal physical exertion allows the performer to focus on the music without worrying about potential mistakes. It is my goal with each of my students that no matter what music they choose to play, they are equipped with the necessary skills to produce the sounds they desire effortlessly so that they can truly enjoy the act of creating music. I guide the students to prioritize the things that make the most sense for their personal goals. These are the baseline expectations I have for all my students: Students will need to bring the following materials to lessons: Saxophone (in good working condition) Relevant Books or Sheet Music Working Reeds Neck Strap Mouthpiece and Ligature Cork Grease (as needed) Tuner/Metronome Apps Notebook, Pencil, and Eraser Practice and Preparation Students are expected to practice their lesson materials each week and come to the next lesson with improvements. I have been teaching music in the Seattle area for the past 6 years. I teach beginning band orchestra to grades 4-5 as well as middle school band and orchestra.
