As I mentioned above, one of my favorite parts about teaching is learning from my students. I encourage my students to take chances, perform often, and to not be afraid of making mistakes. Hello! My name is Ethan and I am a percussion performance major at Iowa State University. I have performed in 4 different countries with the Iowa State University Wind Ensembles. I have also performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City, and marched in both the Macys Parade and the Dublin St Patricks Parade. The most important thing to do as a teacher is find the right balance between fun and learning. When I teach, I make sure that students are enjoying their time in the lessons, because music is supposed to be fun, not a chore. At the same time, we have to work hard on our weaknesses and turn them into strengths, and the most enjoyment comes from working hard on something and seeing the rewards of that hard work. Read More
