I'm a fun and energetic music teacher and love teaching others the joy of music. I just graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music, where my primary instrument was percussion. At UNI, I was involved in the Panther Marching Band, Symphonic Band, West African Drum Ensemble, Taiko Japanese drumming and many other ensembles. My teaching methods are straight forward and effective. I always customize my lesson plans to fit the unique individual needs of each student. For guitar students, I use a mixture of classic rock and folk songs, scales, finger exercises, and improvising guitar solos to give a balanced and fun approach to the guitar. For piano students, fun songs that emphasize the proper hand placement and techniques are very important. I have been teaching private lessons for around 3 years, with experience teaching in all aspects of percussion, including drumset, marching percussion and concert percussion. I teach both virtually and in person either at my home studio in Cedar Rapids or in Ames when I'm at college. I believe that a combination of all the various styles of percussion is the best way to get a full grasp of drumming, however if you have specific interests I will do my best to focus on those when possible in the lessons.
