I like to start out with new students by asking about them and what they want to learn and if they have any prior experience. I then like to make a custom lesson plan and practice schedule for my students, as well as book recommendations to work from. My teaching methods are straight forward and effective. I always customize my lesson plans to fit the unique individual needs of each student. For guitar students, I use a mixture of classic rock and folk songs, scales, finger exercises, and improvising guitar solos to give a balanced and fun approach to the guitar. For piano students, fun songs that emphasize the proper hand placement and techniques are very important. I'm a fun and energetic music teacher and love teaching others the joy of music. I just graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music, where my primary instrument was percussion. At UNI, I was involved in the Panther Marching Band, Symphonic Band, West African Drum Ensemble, Taiko Japanese drumming and many other ensembles.
