I'm a fun and energetic music teacher and love teaching others the joy of music. I just graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music, where my primary instrument was percussion. At UNI, I was involved in the Panther Marching Band, Symphonic Band, West African Drum Ensemble, Taiko Japanese drumming and many other ensembles. My teaching methods are straight forward and effective. I always customize my lesson plans to fit the unique individual needs of each student. For guitar students, I use a mixture of classic rock and folk songs, scales, finger exercises, and improvising guitar solos to give a balanced and fun approach to the guitar. For piano students, fun songs that emphasize the proper hand placement and techniques are very important. Patience is my favorite virtue, and is imperative when is comes to teaching a subject as beautifully complex as music. Every student learns in a different way, and at different speeds. I aim to find every student's ideal learning pace, and deliver information in a manner that is easiest for them to absorb and retain. I use a variety of books, tailored to the student based on my initial viewing of their abilities and what they are interested in learning. I also create my own lesson plans using exercises and music I have written myself. No two lesson plans will be the same as everyone learns differently and has different strengths and weaknesses.
