Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Specific methods vary from student to student, depending on the instrument, however the fundamentals that make great musicians are the same. My student get trained in basic music theory concepts that help not just read music, but understand it as a second language. All students will learn a variety of musical styles, from classical to jazz, blues to pop. They will learn how each style is different, what they have in common, and fun ways they can be combined. As I mentioned above, one of my favorite parts about teaching is learning from my students. I encourage my students to take chances, perform often, and to not be afraid of making mistakes. All experiences help you learn, no matter what level you are. I encourage students to make the music personal to them and relate to it in a way that suits their personality. Hello! My name is Ethan and I am a percussion performance major at Iowa State University. I have performed in 4 different countries with the Iowa State University Wind Ensembles. I have also performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City, and marched in both the Macys Parade and the Dublin St Patricks Parade. The most important thing to do as a teacher is find the right balance between fun and learning. When I teach, I make sure that students are enjoying their time in the lessons, because music is supposed to be fun, not a chore. At the same time, we have to work hard on our weaknesses and turn them into strengths, and the most enjoyment comes from working hard on something and seeing the rewards of that hard work. Read More
