I focus on a skills based learning regimen. I often start beginners out without using a book, just learning to make the instrument perform before we add the complexities of music notation to the mix. With more advanced students I work on the small details of mastering the instrument, and translate that into performance. I favor method books that drill the student in those details, and add solo material for variety and to introduce different performance styles. Read More

For complete beginners I use the usual method books used in the public schools. As I get to know the student I tailor the lessons to their skill level and personality to teach the fundamentals. More intermediate students I look at what they do well and areas they need to work on such as embouchure or breathing technique. I teach theary and make sure the student learns how to read music. More advanced students I will teach repertoire and advanced books such as Arban's Mehod book. I will always make sure the fundamentals are taught regardless of the skill level. Read More

I believe in individualized learning. So each student will receive their own plan for their progression. Some materials I recommend for students are the rubank book for beginner. It is very important for students to grasp the fundamentals. For intermediate students, we would progress on a track and focus on what they had for goals. For advanced students we could use anything from method books to cds to ear training and transposition to bring out the best in the learner. Read More

With a teacher-mom, I believe my teaching experience started as soon as I could wrangle the attention of my little sister or stuffed animals. Officially I did some tutoring and a pre-teacher program in high school, along with some volunteering at after school programs. I also tutored and taught private lessons while in college. In my student teaching semester, I taught P-12 music classes including band and music appreciation. After college I spent ten years with a Christian camping organization where I taught as well. One of the foundations of my teaching philosophy is helping students build healthy, consistent practice habits. Regular, focused practice not only improves skill; it deepens their passion and confidence. I also believe in exposing students to a blend of traditional and contemporary music, giving them opportunities to explore creativity while developing strong technical fundamentals. Whether a students interests lean toward classical repertoire, modern worship, jazz, musical theatre, or band literature, I tailor lessons to keep them engaged, challenged, and excited to learn.
