When I think about a student learning wintry to put myself in there shoes. They want to feel like they have something to show for the time that they were the class session. . if we have an hour session and at the end of the session they can go out and show off what they learned then they will. It be as motivated to come back.... For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. The first lesson i assess the student's ability - whether they can play, read music, and what kind of music they like. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their level. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More

I begin by first, of course, meeting with the students and talking to them and learning what they wish to achieve from their lessons with me as well as their level of playing at that current moment. After this first initial meeting and lesson I begin to help the student improve, working with them to achieve higher standards of performance at his or her own pace.
