The most essential element of music is FUN. Naturally, all students meet challenges and frustrating situations. Because I have experienced this myself, I understand completely! I develop a unique approach with each of my students. I am very comfortable teaching voice, piano, and brass instruments. For all of my students, I am fully aware of the standard method books. However, in the past, I have made a special point of working from those books only until it's no longer necessary. Read More

I am a classically trained saxophonist with over five years of teaching experience. I have worked with students ages 10 through 40, in many different settings. I also have experience teaching jazz band, marching band, concert band, and individual lessons. Although my main instrument is saxophone, I actually started on clarinet when I first joined band. For beginning students who are younger, I would start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. There is a wealth of lessons to help progress the student with fundamentals and gradually moving at a pace that is right for them. Once they have gained the confidence to move on, there is also a second book that follows. For older students, I want to know what you are interested in and can guide the instruction to keep them fun and you engaged no matter the ability level. Read More

In my junior year I spent three weeks teaching in Uganda, where I taught high school aged beginners and intermediate brass and percussionists. During my graduate degree I taught students of various levels and ages privately, and also taught the Trumpet Techniques class, where I taught non trumpet playing music education majors the basics of how to play trumpet as well as how to teach it in their future classrooms.
