I have been teaching private lessons part time for almost a year. In that short time, my studio has grown to include seven students of varying skill levels. I believe that regular practice is important, and that practicing should be fun. I try to combine classical and modern music when teaching, as both are important to the development of a well rounded musician. During these times, I would frequently work with small groups or individual students, providing instruction in areas of difficulty. My philosophy of teaching is that there is a base of knowledge and skills that a student must possess before a more personal journey in music can occur. While I don't subscribe to any particular method I do believe there is a best order to learning. My teaching experience stems back to high school. When I was 14 I was recognized for my talent to help members of the Jr high and beginner band classes. Then when I was attending Miami University, I started my own studio of three high school trombone students; I did that for 2 years. Since then I have taught at dozens of band camps all across Ohio, I have taught in BGSUs Academy Band from 2017-2018, and the Detroit Symphony Orchestras Youth Wind Ensemble from 2014-2016.
