I have been teaching in San Diego for over 15 years, and before that I was in Phoenix, AZ. I have been involved in countless wind bands, orchestras, and various ensembles over the years. My teaching style revolves heavily around what is happening with the mind and body while a student is learning. When teaching in a manner involving a “do, hear, see” process, for example, one can make the note, hear the note and then see how that note is noted. In order to give sounds, pitches and rhythmic cadences a unique personality to enhance simple placement in time and space, musicians must also learn how to utilize and strengthen their own emotional, interpersonal and physical (moving, feeling, controlled breathing) abilities.
