I've been teaching from as early as middle school. I had my first two bassoon students in middle school. Throughout high school I was a teachers assistant to my band and choir directors and frequently led sectionals, class activities or solo lessons. I am an enthusiastic and inspiring teacher who likes succeeding with students and sharing my passion of music. In 2014, I graduated from the University of Milwaukee with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Saxophone Performance. Traveling all around the midwest has been one of the better experiences of my career as a musician, and I have had the chance to play both at Summerfest, as well as touring the United States in numerous shows as a musician with the european wind ensemble Blaskapelle Milwaukee, and my own jazz trio. I'm a firm believer in taking a student where they are and building off of their interests. Finding what a student is interested in and using that as a starting point is a part of my teaching approach. At the same time, there are some things that are critical to be taught at every level that should be incorporated on some level so there's a holistic and balanced education. My two philosophies for music are in learning and musicality. You're never too old, young, experienced, etc. to pick up an instrument. It takes time and dedication, and I expect my students to work hard, practice, and ask questions if they don't understand something. I also enjoy working with a variety of students because I learn how to teach things differently if someone doesn't understand. What I really enjoy is focusing on the music as opposed to learning the notes and rhythms. Read More
