Whether you are beginning in music or experienced, I will design a program for you. We will start with a short time where we get to know each other. Then we can choose a music book for saxophone that we can work out of. For example for beginners we can start with the Hal Leonard Essential Elements book. (But don't let using a book frighten you, because we will have as much fun as we can learning music.) My teaching experience dates back to when i was in college, as I began teaching private lessons part time 15 years ago. I would teach to earn extra money when i was in college, as well as accompany other musicians as a side gig. I also have some experience playing piano and singing at a local coffee house from time to time. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize with all my students as it develops the flexibility in the hands and fingers that is needed for the more challenging pieces of music. I find great satisfaction and enjoyment working with music students of all ages and ability levels. The reward comes from seeing the development of a student to the point where they are accomplishing wonderful things with their musical ability. I graduated from BYU in 1989, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Education. I have been fortunate to perform with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and the Minnesota Mormon Chorale. My teaching experience started 5 years ago. I was a senior in high school and was teaching a beginning student the trombone. Throughout the past 5 years I have continued to teach students when I was able to. I encourage regular practice and maintaining a consistent schedule. I always say 10 minutes a day is better then 30 minutes every 3 days. For younger students a combination or aural learning and written learning are great ways to help them engage and keep an interest. Read More

As long as a student truly wants to learn and excel on their instrument, I believe I can help him or her achieve that goal. Their goal becomes my goal and it gives me great satisfaction to help them gain the musical and instrumental skills they need to reach their goal, whatever that may be.
