I started teaching lessons when I was 18 at a music business and taught there between 3 to 5 hours a week for about 5 years. For the past 5 years I have been teaching at IU. I have taught many different styles from classical to jazz to rock, etc. and have also watched many great teachers and tried to learn from their methods. I am currently working on a book to teach the notes and fretboard of the guitar that will hopefully be able to help students of any age or experience. Read More

I have always loved teaching music. I think that it is a very important aspect of being a musician. I feel the need to pass on everything that I have learned. I started studying classical music and shortly after beginning, started to branch out into other styles. Over the years, I have studied, country, Irish, and Cajun fiddling, Jazz, Rock, Improv, and kept up with my classical studies. I like to begin all my students on a combination of technical studies and enjoyable/familiar melodies. This will help them learn the fundamentals in a rewarding way, because as they progress they will continue to learn new songs week after week. This is much more rewarding than checking of series of technical exercises. Additionally it is important to have both small goals to achieve each week and large goals to achieve over a number of months, so my students can be aware and proud of their progress over time.
