Hello! My name is Nic, and I'd like to be your student's next piano instructor! I'm a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (Go Huskers!), although I hail from Minnesota originally. Over the last several years, I've been instructing students on piano and performing at outside engagements for clients. For students who already have the groundwork of the instrument, I typically move forward with whatever they are interested in learning and what would make them feel more accomplished. For beginner students, I typically start them out in the Fast Track Guitar 1 book just to get them comfortable with the instrument, proper technique, basic music theory, etc. Additionally, I always implement scales into the lessons, no matter the age or skill level. For beginning trumpet students, I start with a combination of Clark and Arbank Technical studies for a formal structure. A majority of the technical teaching I do is based on these two methods. I also implement techniques from the Sheridan and Pilafian Breathing Gym to establish the fundamental mechanics of generating sound. For all students, regardless of ability, lessons will have some foundation in the breath and the mechanics of breathing. Read More

I approach each student in their own unique way based on their own goals and experiences. As a trained jazz musician, I like improvising and composing exercises for students on the spot and this is a skill I like to teach my students as well.
