The one thing I enjoy more than playing music is helping others learn and grow in their craft. I started playing guitar back in 2008 while I was living in Guam. While I was there I devoted my entire life to learning how to play guitar in all its various modes. I spent years focused on growing as a guitar player and learning to push myself to continuously improve. During that time, I began to fall in love with percussion. Read More

During my 14 years of music teaching experience, I have worked with students as a public school music teacher, a studio private lesson teacher for piano, voice, oboe, flute, clarinet and saxophone. I've started studio programs for music theory, group piano, preschool music and musical theater. I've worked with students of all ages and experience levels who have a wide range of musical goals. Because I have a background in Kodaly and Orff instructional methods as well as advanced knowledge of musical theory, composition, music history and recording arts, I incorporate these elements within my instruction as students learn a piece of music. I adapt each lesson for the individual, their interests and their needs. Read More

I generally first start with finding out what my student is interested in. I have primarily used Alfred's Basic Piano Library with my younger students but am open to suggestions. I base my selection of each individual student, as long as the core fundamentals are used. I do enjoy the interactive workbooks for younger students, as I've seen repetition has a major effect. Writing out the information does help, even if it isn't written on the music itself. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Piano lessons OR Teaching Little fingers to play. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, the Thompson series are good as a base line. I also try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More
