For very young, or beginner students, I use elements of MusicPlay, which really make learning the basics of music fun and applicable. For intermediate or slightly older students, we would go over the basics of singing technique, including posture, breathing, tone, register, and interpretation/performance, usually in that order. We learn through vocalizes and art song, moving to more complicated pieces as progress is made. When starting off with students who are either children or complete beginners, I like to begin with Hal Leonard's All-In-One lessons book, while also incorporating individual sheet music to accentuate what the books are trying to teach. With adults, I take a quicker paced method by first establishing what direction in music they would like to go in, then introducing well-known songs of that genre into their repertoire. Both lessons groups will mainly start with a classical background to learn and reinforce proper techniques, and are then given the opportunity to branch off into any genre that entices them. I try to be sensitive to the needs of the student not just his/her musical needs but his/her academic needs as my ability to continue working with the student depends upon his/her academic success. I will suggest a basic routine at home: Housework, Practice, Study, Leisure, Bedtime. I'm a dedicated music educator that wants to help students bring out their full potential on their instrument. In 2018, I graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Music Education. While at Baylor, I was a member of the trombone studio under Brent Phillips. I played in all the instrumental ensembles avaliable to play in as a trombonist. I also studied piano as my secondary instrument in college.
