I started to teach private piano lessons since 2008, I have almost 8 years piano teaching experience. Back to my undergraduate days, I was running my home studio for 5 years in Beijing. I obtained my Master’s degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy at Ball State University. As a graduate assistant during my Master degree, I taught students in one on one lesson and group piano class of various ages and levels. In my lessons, I always try to explore students talents and help them to grow their passion on music in each lesson. Read More

While I am firm about daily practice to improve, most every one I work with finds me easygoing and accommodating. I have worked as a therapist with children and their families but the role of teacher is a different relationship. I do require students have a working instrument to practice daily and regularly. My teaching philosophy has five basic elements that I always follow: differentiation, engagement, feedback, ownership, assessment and questioning. I teach students with different music levels, backboards, and ages. I try my best to start with what my student can do then extend within student's own context, so each of my students is very unique and special for me. And I always hope to cultivate my students, especially young students to become a better person through their music learning journey which is how I learned most from my music teachers. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Faber's Piano Adventures, or the All-In-One Alfred Series. Younger children often succeed with more game-oriented lessons, every student is different. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire from my wide collection appropriate to their taste. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More

After graduating I began teaching lessons. Over the past 7 years I have taught students of all ages and ability levels. I customize all of my lessons to the needs of my students. If students have a particular interest I do my utmost to incorporate it into their lessons. By taking a mix of new music, new concepts, and some familiar ideas and interests of each of my students I create a lesson that will inspire my students to connect with their music. Read More
