I am not strict in one specific style. I try to be malleable in my approach as I get to know the habits and abilities of each individual. I've had students for whom I thought it best to be more rigid and repetitive drill based, while others seem to benefit from a more passive guru. It's a spectrum. Always, though, I try to control the pace of the session, to speak thoughtfully, honestly, and constructively whilst always maintaining the utmost respect for the struggles that a student is facing. First of all, I love the Classical Guitar. I believe it to be one of the most (if not the most) expressive instruments in classical music. I've seen the face of an 80 year old grasping the ukulele and finally getting to hear himself playing his own songs, and seeing the glow in his eyes like a child. When you set realistic goals and set what steps are going to get you there, all the while celebrating each little victory, every lesson depends on the needs of my student. I am currently teaching solely for the fun of it and the challenge in it, as it is not my main career or main project, but it is something I get a lot from, and I have found over the years, has helped a ton of people get back into picking up their instrument, and cutting out the world for a bit. Instruments: Piano, Clarinet, Music, Keyboard
In the first lesson beginner students get an overview of the piano, learn their first warmups, get an idea of what they should do outside of our lessons to see the most progress, and discuss their goals as a musician and pianist/clarinetist. I mostly teach from Alfred's Basic Piano Library All-In-One Book series for students of all ages and supplement with other materials as needed. I usually am willing to work with any books students already have as well. Read More
