My methods adapt to each student, their age and their level. The books I use go from the Suzuki books to the traditional Fouillard, Popper or Sebastian Lee methods. The repertoire would also depend on the student needs and the type of music he/she wants to learn. The age of the student is not relevant to me. I often use software that is helpful in teaching, like Transcribe, Band in a Box , and other software to write music, backing tracks, etc. Student motivation is the main goal and of course determines the style and content of my teaching . Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. For my younger students, i would start with the simple lullabies like ABC's and Row Your Boat to get them familiar with the instrument and getting them used to playing what they want to hear. Then we'd move on to Hal Leonard's fundamental books to develop reading skills. For the older students, i'd get an understanding of what their listening to and how they want to play and start to introduce them to essential principles to be the musician they are imagining themselves to be. I am a current DMA candidate and teaching assistant at LSU. I hold a Bachelor of Music degree in flute performance from UC Santa Barbara, and a Master of Music degree in flute performance from the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at CSU Long Beach. I have also recently obtained a performance diploma at Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris. I have performed in various venues across the United States, as well as Taiwan, Thailand, France and Germany.
