Each student is unique. I tailor my approach and the materials I use in lessons to the specific needs and interests of the individual student. I strive to develop overall musicianship and expressive playing/singing, and introduce concepts in a sequential and progressive manner. Lessons include sight reading, notation, improvisation, ear-training, theory and repertoire building. Students are really the cornerstone of my teaching style. Many teachers use a "one size fits all" methodology to their students. By tailoring my teaching to my students specific talents, they will be very eager to learn! Students all have different learning styles, and different concepts they struggle with. I use students' learning styles to develop the skills to learn concepts. Learning each and individual technique does indeed work. However, teaching a student how to learn concepts allows for greater understanding, and it allows them to take ownership of their own playing. Read More

I am a Suzuki teacher. I love this method because it places emphasis on the skills learned, which can transfer over into any piece, rather than just learning the notes of a piece. I do think it is important to learn to recognize what you hear and play by ear, but I will not let my students fall behind with note reading.
