I have been teaching private lessons part time for about 15 years years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 5 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. My name is Josh Miller, and I am different. Music is the calling that God has placed on my life, and I will teach it with passion. I am a graduate of Louisiana College with a Bachelors of Arts in Music and Worship Leadership. This represents 4 years rigorous musical training in music performance, theory, and history. If you want to be more than typical, if you want to know both HOW music works and WHY it works that way, if you want to stand out from the crowds of musicians out there, then come with me; we will change the world! For beginning students who wish to learn how to read music, I typically start with the Berklee Method Phase 1 book by William Leavitt. This book is great and gets you playing in no time while learning the fundamentals of music. For adults or more advanced students, I want to help guide the student in their interests. The student's level of technical ability will be assessed and exercises to improve technique will be stressed as well as learning scales, chords, and songs helping the student to increase their ability and repertoire. I find ways to make these more mundane parts of the lesson fun with games and veiled learning that keep students engaged. Together we'll set realistic goals at each lesson and make sure we acknowledge at the end of the lesson how we've progressed and what we need to work on. Read More
