I have been teaching guitar lessons for over ten years. I have been playing in professional bands that tour all over Oklahoma and surrounding states for over 6 years. I play solo performances regularly for a variety of social events. My students have gone on to pursue degrees in music and play in successful bands. For my beginning guitar students, we begin with basic chords and simple melodies to develop motor function, finger strength/dexterity, and calluses on the fingertips. After that I start teaching them how to read music and progress onto harder pieces. During this time, I also incorporate teaching the student a song of their own choosing in order to keep them engaged and excited about learning the play music. Formal lessons are a new thing to me, but as far as teaching goes I’ve taught friends and colleagues along my music school career a thing or two about music production, theory, as well as guitar and piano techniques here and there.
