I like to engage with my students on a personal level in addition to a student/teacher perspective. I've found that when my students are excited to see me each week, they are more willing to follow my instruction and try their best when it comes to practicing. An important aspect of this philosophy is giving the student a chance to choose their own music. Initially, they begin learning things at my instruction and through my own curriculum or the curriculum of the Bastien or Hal Leonard books, but I also let them choose one of their favorite songs for us to work on together. Formal lessons are a new thing to me, but as far as teaching goes I’ve taught friends and colleagues along my music school career a thing or two about music production, theory, as well as guitar and piano techniques here and there.
