My methods include a interview process where I get to know the student's goals and desires. Sometimes this includes learning a certain piece of music or style of music or interest to jam with friends as a hobby. When I can get a sense of their goals it helps me design a course fit for your student's learning interest. For beginning students who have no experience on their instrument, I usually spend a fair chunk of time working on basic technique using books like the Essential Elements series or Greg Horne's similar books for folk instruments. I usually combine the book material with other songs/pieces relevant to each student's interests. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Guitar Method One. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, including being able to read both staff and tab and have some basic playing technique , I will begin to introduce solo repertoire. For adult students, I like to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More

My first contact with music was during my early childhood, when I took piano, guitar and violin lessons. Growing up, I was always active playing with several youth orchestras and various ensembles, ranging from classical to popular and folk music. I studied piano and composition at the California State University, Sacramento, where I had the opportunity to study with world class musicians and be part of cutting edge orchestras and choirs; during my college years I went on several tours with a choir, performing in venues such as Carnegie Hall, N.Y I currently perform as pianist and accompanist with Opera singers from the area, and also compose upon comissions.
