Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Our music teachers understand that every student has different needs and abilities and therefore the lessons will be planned with that knowledge in mind.

Lessons for young students (typically those twelve and under), an hour lesson consists of ten minutes of warm-up material (scales and rhythm concepts), fifteen minutes of content review (songs and concepts previously learned), fifteen minutes of introducing material or practice critique, and ten minutes of in-class practice. The last fifteen minutes of class is for theory building and notation comprehension (in vernacular, music-reading), and the last few minutes is for lesson review, where we discuss what we learned in the lesson and what the expectations are for the following week. First off, I find out what inspired the student to want to play music and I'll get a feel for the type of music that they're interested in. Then I will create a custom lesson plan for that student. There is so much to discover about music, so I encourage setting small goals each lesson. I like to teach my students songs that present many different melodic scenarios and help them develop their ear so that can start to recognize all types of chord progressions, melodies and rhythmic patterns. Personally, I am more of a visual learner than I am an auditory learner, and that is reflected in my teaching style. I like using handouts when I teach guitar lessons, and I often refer back to them. It helps me personally to see something on paper in order to better understand it. In the case of online lessons I would probably email handouts to the student prior to a lesson. Read More
