I believe many students look at a piece of music that seems too difficult and become too overwhelmed to realize that's it's not as difficult as it may first appear. By breaking down music into its components, pitch, rhythm, dynamic, articulation, etc., and tackling each item one at a time, students who thought of music as a strange and foreign language begin to see it as something that just works and makes sense. I began playing the flute at age 10 and eagerly continued, participating in every musical opportunity I had in middle school, high school, and college. In 2010, I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Susquehanna University with my Bachelors in Music degree in Music Education with a concentration in flute. For beginner students, I typically start with Rubank Elemetary Method for Flute. However, if you have a different method book, I am happy to teach using that book, if I find it to be a credible source. For intermediate to advanced students, I prefer to use the Rubank Advanced Method Books 1 and 2, but again, if you have your own books, if I approve, we can use those books instead.
