My teaching experience began in 2012 as a coach for students auditioning for middle school local honors bands. I have since been consistently teaching students of all ages for both auditions for honors ensembles/competitions and for basic flute training. Consistent practice is always a key focus with all of my students. I find that the best way to motivate students is by helping them the fun in learning! I initiate from the very beginning utilizing Orff, Kodaly and Suzuki methods, as well as some movement activities for my very young students (Pre-K and Kindergarten).Then, I implement some form of musical notation based around sight singing, as a way of laying a good foundation to build upon. I love being able to send students on their way for the day knowing that they put their best foot forward. Even if they did not come to a lesson prepared, being able to see growth in the small amount of time I'm with them is enough for me. I understand that every student progresses at their own pace, so I work with them and their parents to make sure that realistic goals are set and written down to hold the student, parent, and myself to this growth plan. I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. In 1977, I graduated from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Performance. In 1999, I was certified to teach Music K-12 by the state of North Carolina after attending NC Central University. I have been passionate about music and teaching from a very young age. I began playing the flute at age 10 and eagerly continued, participating in every musical opportunity I had in middle school, high school, and college. In 2010, I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Susquehanna University with my Bachelors in Music degree in Music Education with a concentration in flute.
