My supportive approach to teaching begins with finding out where the student is in skill development and assessing the student's desire to learn or need for the subject matter, then assisting them, with materials and techniques, in learning the skills necessary for their chosen goals. For piano students several methods can be used: J.W.Schaum, John Thompson, Alfred Adult Course, etc. . For voice students, the Cocone, Vaccai, and Abt Methods can be applied. Read More

I began teaching group lessons in high school, about 13 years ago. I have been teaching private students for the past 3 years. To make practice fun, I suggest that students should pick out a songbook of their favorite music so that they are excited to pick up the instrument and practice to improve. Read More

For beginning students no matter their ability level, I always introduce rhythms at the first couple lessons. Rhythm is one of the most important elements in music playing. I typically use David Carr Glover Method for Piano for beginners along with theory book, technic book and performance book in class. Read More

Lessons are customized to the student's learning style and behavioral challenges. Any behavioral management is done with expectations set ahead of time, respectful reminders, and consistent consequences so that students get the most out of their time. Usually, I don't have too many issues with this as lessons are engaging through the use of technology, musical and pop-culture jokes and references, and opportunities to record audio and video for keeping a record of their progress and/or sharing with loved ones.
