I have been teaching privately since 2007. I am a passionate instructor who loves working and playing with students. In 2016, I graduated from the University of New Mexico with a Master of Music degree in Flute and Piano performance. I also earned a Bachelor of Music in Instrumental Music Education with a flute emphasis from the University of Arizona under the tutelage of Brian Luce in 2009. I have had the great opportunities to performed at the 2007 and 2016 National Flute Association Convention with the Professional Flute Choirs –Flutefinity Flute Ensemble and Golden Flute Choir.
My teaching experience dates back to my high school years. I tutored my siblings while they were practicing the piano. In school band, I was the sectional leader who lead and taught new members learning how to play the flute. Those experiences became my motivation to be a good music teacher. I really enjoyed teaching different ages of students, learning from each other, and growing altogether. I have been consistently teaching students through my college years and graduate school in school and in my own studio. Making music is fun. Let’s start learning and playing music together.
For beginning students no matter their ability level, I always introduce rhythms at the first couple lessons. Rhythm is one of the most important elements in music playing. Once they can recognize rhythms and count, we will start reading music notes then combing altogether along with playing and singing. I typically use David Carr Glover Method for Piano for beginners along with theory book, technic book and performance book in class. For adults, I depend on students' interests to build up their own lesson plans. We will cover fundamentals and repertoires upon their levels.
I vary students’ lessons with their interests and find the best teaching methods and practices to fit their needs. I encourage students to set up goals at the beginning of each semester. I believe everyone is different and unique. Everyone has different personalities and pace on learning anything. No one can stop you on learning but yourself. But time devoting is very important. Therefore, I require all my students must have to practice outside of class even 10 minutes every day. Playing music is fun but learning takes time!!
