For beginning students, I typically start with the method book "Flute 101" by P.A. Louke and P. George. With beginner saxophone, flute and clarinet students, I like to use 'Standard of Excellence' books (and typically 'Faber Piano Adventures' with beginner piano). I find that these books address the fundamentals, that are crucial to learn while young, in a fun way. Specific interests and styles can be explored too, while at the same time getting a well-rounded musical background.
