For any level of flute students I use the Rubank Method books. These books come in varying levels. I would assess what the student plays and knows and then figure out which book would best fit the student's abilities. I individualize my teaching methods for each student based on their ability level. After I assess the ability level, I find level-appropriate method books, scale studies, etudes, tone exercises, sight reading, and solo repertoire. I use method books that I am personally familiar with and like, but am open to looking for new, exciting options. Due to lessons being customized for each student various method materials will be used including: method books, theory books, performance books, and my own materials that are created to fit the students' needs. After a level assessment during the first lesson music, including books, practice materials, and solos will be chosen to meet that level and be age appropriate. Lesson pacing will be set at an appropriate rate so that older students will be taught at a faster rate than a young beginner so that each student is given the best experience possible while still having fun!
