I'm a Brooklyn based drummer and instructor who loves to teach. In 2015, I graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a Bachelor's degree in Jazz Studies with an emphasis in drumset performance. I was afforded the chance to work with and learn from many great musicians and notable jazz drummers such as Jeff Hamilton, Matt Wilson, John Riley, Jeff Coffin, etc. I have led many gigging bands, and have a lot of experience playing out and working with other musicians. I first began teaching in 2012, when I gave volunteer drum lessons. Shortly after that, I began giving piano and voice lessons both in schools and one-on-one. Currently, when I'm not teaching private lessons, I work part-time as a traveling pre-school music teacher, where I teach preschoolers music with my guitar, picture books, and even puppets! I am comfortable teaching students of all ages but prefer young children, as they can benefit the most from developing a passion for their instrument, which can lead to a lifelong pursuit of music. I love to see how much all of my students improve and overcome their "blocks" on the drums. I usually make a little recording of the new student on day 1 and then make them listen to it after a few lessons: It always surprises them to see how far they've gone! Studying jazz has also opened my eyes to the spontaneity of music, which is another important aspect of music that I try to encourage students to explore. While studying the classics is important, I think another vital element of maintaining a students' excitement in music study is for them to explore and delve into what it is that they enjoy, understanding how it's made, and figuring out why they like it, from a musical perspective.
