I believe in teaching people to be true musicians and tap into their own creative spirits, not just to be technicians at the mercy of what's written for them. With that said, I take a balanced approached between learning traditional fundamentals and some of my own more philosophical approach, drawing on metaphors and analagous experiences to help frame this learning experience in ways the student can relate and understand. I graduated in 2017 and while there I studied jazz and classical bass, jazz and classical piano, composition/arranging, theory, and recording among other things. After I graduated from Roosevelt University I had more time outside of academics to start a teaching practice. In 2011, I worked at Lynn Marcel School of Fine Arts in Hillside, IL. As a drum instructor I helped design a corruculum plan and taught younger students ages 8-14. The first question I have for anyone of any age is, what do you want to learn? Adults often have a clear idea of what they hope to learn, and for that I have many books and methods I recommend for different instruments and styles. I am going to suggest a very different set of books for someone who wants to learn to play country guitar and sing versus someone who wants to play speed metal, and then a different set of books for someone who wants to be a jazz drummer.
