I have the most Experience using the following Method Books: Standard of Excellence, Essential Elements, Accent on Achievement, Instrumental Methods and many other methods. Initially (and throughout) I place a high value on performance fundamentals. I start with a focus on proper posture and breathing. Once this can be executed I breakdown the nomenclature of the student's instrument, how to put it together and break it down. For beginning students, I start with getting comfortable holding the drum sticks and understanding how to properly strike the drumhead. Students will be introduced to basic notes and rhythms that will help them along the way. Beginning students start on drum pads and progressively move towards actual drums. For beginning students I try to go slow and make sure that they get the fundamentals and essentials down. My beliefs are that learning each stage well will help expedite the process of learning and playing later in life. At some point shortly after the fundamentals we will begin on solo literature and possibly duet literature.
