Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. My spark of inspiration to teach comes from my years performing in college as part of my own band, as well as jazz ensemble and guitar ensemble. My first experience with teaching came from my first live shows with Art Wavey. As a songwriter, another duty often times overlooked is teaching the parts needed to complement the song. By explaining the theory behind the compositions in a clear, concise way, as well through direct representation through playing, I was able to convey complex ideas in a way that not only transferred to those being taught, but made it enjoyable as well. My teaching style consist of setting realistic goals and encouraging students to push past what they think their limitations are. Getting my students to understand that this journey is a marathon and not a race is important so that they can understand how they should pace themselves as they progress. Offering my students a chance of performing in front of an audience through recitals, gives them motivation to continue to strive to be a better player and allows them to see the fruits of their labor. My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching friends and kids at church 12 years ago. I have been teaching students off and on in my home or at church for the last 4 years. I encourage students to make time for regular practice on a consistent schedule. Another one of my key points I like to emphasize for younger students and adults is less is more as it tends to help the students progress and gain a passion for the instrument in its most simplistic form. I've learn that the most important part of educating my students is to teach to their learning style and ability while giving them some strong encouragement and guidance. I first start with an assements of where the students skills are and their mindset. I try to findout what they want to due and what they like to due. Sometimes students dont truly know. My teaching goes all the way back to the late 80's . I began teaching the piano and drums to my little brother. I just turned 41 so it has to be about 30 years ago.
