Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Our music teachers understand that every student has different needs and abilities and therefore the lessons will be planned with that knowledge in mind.

For beginning students, I usually start with technique and rudiments with reading. Once the student begins to learn a few rudiments and has correct technique we will start working on solo snare drum reading or playing to a music track if they are a drum set player. It is a privilege to be able to be a part of the development of a musical goal no matter the age or skill level. I take it upon myself to make sure that each student achieves his or her musical goals. I start all my beginners with getting to learn their instrument, the fundamentals of music like scales and progressions and some fun simple songs or melodies. I started teaching when I was a junior in high school. I was taking college classes, so I had some free time during school hours, and my school's band director would have me assist him in teaching the younger band classes. I like to use The Drum Set Musician, by Rod Morganstein and Rick Mattingly, as my primer and launching pad, and I strive to show students how to maximize written exercises by building new concepts upon them. This is a great idea generator. If a student comes to me with established interests, I tailor the lessons to those. If a student comes to me as a clean slate, we will explore different styles of music until we find that spark. Read More

For beginning percussion students who are children, I typically start with Kennan Wylie's Simple Steps to Successful Beginning Percussion and Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has grasped the fundamentals of playing and reading, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I like to find out what what the student is interested in learning, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep lessons engaging and fun, no matter the ability. Read More
