Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Our music teachers understand that every student has different needs and abilities and therefore the lessons will be planned with that knowledge in mind.
lessons are available in the following areas:
Instruments: Piano, Trombone, Clarinet, Drums, Bass Guitar, Euphonium, Tuba, Piccolo, Mallet Percussion, Orchestral Percussion, Conga, Latin Percussion, Music, Keyboard
The first thing I do when teaching a student is to learn what musical goals and aspirations the student may have. Then, depending on age and experience, I build a custom program for the student, which may include using various books, resources, and even materials which I have created. I have found that this is not only the most effective way for me to teach but also the most effective way to connect with students where they are and for them to learn at their own pace while also enjoying the process. Depending on the instrument and skill levels of the student I have different methods. For guitarists I typically like to start by learning techniques and building strength in their fingers before we move into theoretical concepts. For pianists I begin with technique but with also teaching them the musical staff and getting them started with reading music. Ultimately my method depends on the individual needs of the student. The lesson is always aimed at having the most fun as possible, all while learning and expanding our musical knowledge. Read More
Instruments: Drums
I want to find out each student's skill level, and start from there. For beginners, I try to keep thing informal and fun while teaching basics without putting any pressure to get into the technical stuff like hand technique and reading until they're ready. For intermediate students, I nudged them along with weekly lessons that are challenging enough to keep them engaged - this includes reading, hand technique and limb independence. Read More
Instruments: Drums, Conga, Latin Percussion, Djembe
My philosophy for lesson structure is that fun and context are a necessity. Learning exercises in a vacuum can be uninspiring and boring, but turning those exercises into games and allowing students to play along to tracks makes the music come to life! Instead of "having to" do an exercise or play a pattern, the student now "gets to" play a fun rhythm game or play along to music they like. Read More

My teaching experience began in 2008, when I began teaching private lessons on various instruments, on voice, and on conducting. I later went on to teach band and choir at Cedar Bluff High School in 2011. After this, I volunteered as the band director at Valley Head High School in 2014. I have enjoyed every moment of teaching music and have taken so much from the experiences that I've had. If I was to emphasize anything about learning the art, it would be the understanding of interpretation and how to make any music into something that is uniquely yours. Read More
