When it comes to young children: it is 100% keeping them participating and keeping them having fun. Drums and Cymbals are particularly fun and perhaps the most instrument to play. Playing in sync with each other, color coding targets, keeping time and basic rhythm concepts are my way of keeping children 4-9 involved and wanting to learn more. Whether my new students are children or not, I will usually start from the basics and work our way up from there. With children, I will stretch the basic lessons further until they have a solid foundation to build on. I write out every single lesson plan by the date and have each student do the same so that we do not lose track of where we are.
