I am originally from Alabama and graduated from the University of Alabama in 2008 with a Bachelors degree in Clarinet Performance. Then I moved to Philadelphia to continue my education. I graduated from Temple University with a Masters degree in Clarinet Performance. As a teacher, I am very motivated and persistent. I believe that all students learn differently, even from the first time they play an instrument. I like to take the first lesson to learn more about my students and see if they have any prior knowledge about reading, playing, hearing and/or practicing music. I usually guide my beginner flute, clarinet, and saxophone students to the Essential Elements book, but also include some other simple repertoire and practice techniques that will fit what they need. I instructed beginning students as well as advanced 8th graders in all brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments. Directing and leading concert band, marching band, drum line, and jazz band required me to remain in communication with parents and the community, keep organization and discipline in the classroom, and engage the students with well-prepared lessons and quality band literature.
