Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. I start with the basics, building solid technique and gradually introducing more challenging pieces. I love incorporating short theory lessons as my students advance, and with my younger students, I play theory games so they can remember music being made fun! I want my students to have fun, but to also engage in very structured learning. All students must find time to practice during the week, but the parents must be a huge part of helping their child learn this new instrument. We will set weekly, realistic goals for each lesson. During the lesson, we will review the last concept that was learned, go over the lesson for the day and then create a lesson for the following week and be sure that each lesson is explained and understood. My teaching experience is primarily in one on one or small group settings. I have taught several students as young as 10 years old. It is my experience that a student's approach to their instrument varies with their age. The more time one spends with an instrument, the more one expects to have a certain sound. I believe it is important to emphasize not comparing oneself to others. This goes hand and hand with my approach to teaching in that it focuses on the individual wants and needs of the student.
