Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Our music teachers understand that every student has different needs and abilities and therefore the lessons will be planned with that knowledge in mind.

I typically use a combination of methods in the private lesson setting-method books, etude books, books for technique, solo repertoire, and pop/rock/jazz music and or charts for contemporary study. For beginners, I like Essential Elements 2000, Faber Method, Suzuki solo books, and easy pop music books. For more advanced students, I will incorporate advanced methods such as etude books/orchestral excerpts along with repertoire geared more towards polishing for recital or performance. Read More

I use the Belwin Mills and String Builder books, also Klengel Technical Studies as well as Harvey S Whistler Position Books. Selected repertoire as the student advances. For beginning adults I try to determine exactly what they are wanting to achieve by starting an instrument at this point in life. For the beginner I determine what kind of talent they have and how to proceed with lessons. Learning an instrument is hard - and practice time at home is essential and must be consistent to progress. It is extremely important to me that every student benefits from his or her own personally tailored lesson. This means that there is no "cut and paste" lesson plan to use with each student. Once I get to know the student, I will be able to judge their level of playing ability, their ability to read music, how good their posture is, how good their hand position is, etc. It is also important to me to get to know the student's personality, so that when teaching, I can help make the student feel as comfortable as possible during the lesson. Throughout the process, I also integrate tidbits of music theory and history to give the student a more well-rounded experience. As for guitar and piano, I normally take a more custom approach to teaching that tends to not revolve around any specific method book. However, I typically teach beginning pianists and guitarists how to read through and play simple pieces of music so that they understand the fundamentals before moving on to a mix of songs or pieces that I select and songs or pieces that the student wishes to play so as to keep things fresh and exciting.
