I am a patient and encouraging instructor who enjoys sharing music with people and working with students to teach music. I started my piano lesson at age of seven and cello at age of nine. I got my bachelor's degree from National Taiwan Normal University where the country I am originally from and my master's degree from Northern Illinois University. I only want my students to have a positive experience when leaving our lesson. I am constantly letting them know what they've done well, along with what goals we need to work on. I focus on the sandwich method, which is one positive trait, something to work on, then another positive trait. Everyone is different, so their learning pace is different as well. I do expect them to put at least some effort in at home via practicing (although I know things come up sometimes), otherwise it would be hard to find progress when they haven't practiced what we were working on. If the student has never read sheet music, we will first do worksheets to learn how to read bass clef. If the student has taken another instrument, such as piano, there are some transferrable skills that will allow us to go through this process much faster. As we learn to read bass clef, we will explore the instrument, learn where notes are, and begin making sounds. I earned my Associates Degree in 1984, in Music Performance, from Community College of Rhode Island. I've been playing bass guitar and double bass, professionally for over 35 years in various bands, groups, orchestras and with international stars such as Ray Charles and Andrea Bocelli. I've played in locations such as Boston, New York, Pittsburgh, Maryland, New Jersey, and as far west as Chicago an Detriot.
