I am a positive and encouraging instructor, and emphasize proper technique, music theory, and fundamentals through a variety of musical styles ranging from classical to popular music. My students are all ages (I once had a student start at the age of 70!) and come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. I work with students to help them balance a practice schedule with the rest of their lives. I am a passionate instructor who enjoys working with students of all ages. I started performing, professionally, at a very young age, during my 6 years at the Alabama School of Fine Arts. From there, I attended the Louisiana State University, as a cello performance major and performed with the school symphony, as well as the Alexandria Symphony, the Lake Charles Symphony and local venues. I went on to get my Master's degree at Georgia State University and then returned to Louisiana State University for my final degree in Cello Performance. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Suzuki Cello Book 1. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire tailored for each student depending on their skill level. Generally, we start with a quick assessment of where you are in the instrument, what pieces you can play and want to and/or need to get to play someday, I use a regimen of Cello " workouts" that will focus on improving overall and focus on areas we need to work the most on, each student is different and responds differently to different methods, though there are several etude books I use ( like Feullard's 60 daily exercises or poppers Highschool of cello, as well as some of Dotsauers 113 Studies ) which would also depend on our starting point.
