I am a professional guitar player and instructor living in Pickerington Ohio. I have retired from road work and now plan to dedicate all of my time to teaching. I have spent most of the last 20 years teaching 80 plus students a week. Though I did not attend college I started playing professionally at age 17 and have played Rock, Blues , and Country all over the United States ever since. As far as my teaching methods go, I do not use any of the course books commonly used by many teachers and studios. I feel that this cookie cutter approach doesnt successfully work for everybody as it assumes everyone is the same. I have taught thousands of students over the decades and can say that I havent seen two students exactly alike the entire time. My teaching experience started in musical theatre as a writer when I was 17. I was the bassist in an original production. My more recent experience has been as an educational artist for Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, Ga. I’ve had private students from all ages and ethnic backgrounds. The awesome thing about teaching music is that no matter what language one may speak we all can communicate through music. My teaching style is straightforward and practical, always emphasizing the goals of each student specifically. The benefits of reading and understanding sheet music as it relates to your instrument far outweigh those of simple tablature used for guitar and banjo etc. However, in some cases it is practical to use non-traditional forms of instruction. I have been teaching music for nearly 20 years. I am the after school music teacher for the Norwood School District. My primary goal is to make sure students are having fun and enjoying themselves during lessons. I have a laid-back disposition.
