In 2002, I was the musical director for the Roadhouse Theaters production of Kurt Weills Threepenny Opera. I joined the Bluesbeaters (Against the World Enterprises) in 2005 and have performed 100 shows a year including 30 a year at PeaknPeek resort from 2005 to 2013. We currently perform monthly to packed houses at the Bullfrog Bar in Erie and are a favorite at many private events. I have recently learned bass guitar as well. I encourage students to practice at least 20-30 minutes a day because even that little amount of time makes all the difference. I also love to incorporate creativity in my lessons with songwriting and improvisation. I also encourage students to participate in recitals as well. For beginners, I like to make an introduction about the instrument and its particularly parts, then I start teaching scales and how they work on the instrument and on the paper. I teach how to read music, rhythm, musical figures, analyses of scales etc. Improvisation using scales and creating melodies. Harmonization, play chords, chords inversion. I began teaching guitar in high school to middle school students and continued teaching children and adults throughout college. While in music college, I grew to start to teaching bass guitar as well as drums. My teaching style is focused yet fun. Me and my students always have a good time through my curriculum of theory and how it relates to music they enjoy. Whether it’s finding music theory in Taylor Swift song, or learning the guitar neck through a Beatles solo, I always find a way to teach through interests that the students have rather than force a cookie cutter approach.
