My teaching style is very simple. With the fundamentals in place, it's possible to learn any song you want to. If there's a song that goes beyond a student's fundamentals, then that's what we'll learn next. As my music teachers told me, if you listen to a record and you find something on it that you don't know how to play, go back and learn how to do it! I believe in getting at the core of how each individual learns. This can be done for all age ranges and talent levels. Once I have a good idea of learning style of a person, I find it much easier for them to learn and understand concepts. This is done with an emphasis on communication not only about music, but about other interests in all walks of life. I enjoy guiding students to their specific goals and helping them gain understanding of their instrument and also of their own innate musicality. I tailor all lessons to meet both of these areas and find that it not only helps students motivate but also learn to engage their instrument in a way that is both fun and rewarding for themselves. So far, I've taught some kids and adults.  I've learned that teaching kids versus teaching adult students is different. Each age group would require their own tasks. For instance, if I were to be teaching a kid who is maybe 10 years old, I would start off by introducing the notes on the instrument. Then, I would create games or exercises based on the new stuff we'd cover.  For an adult student, I wouldn't use any games on them. Read More
