Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Our music teachers understand that every student has different needs and abilities and therefore the lessons will be planned with that knowledge in mind.

I have worked with many music methods and numerous curriculums: Alfred, Faber, Piano Pronto, Hal Leonard, Bastian, Eric Steiner Rice, Faber, Dogs and Birds, Mr. Everybody's Musical Apt., Sandy Hoffman, Carol Tournquist etc. to name a few. I start out with a general introduction and progress to choosing the core curriculum according to the student's ability and desire in music. Music is a vast Science and lessons plans will be created around your goal in music rather than a rigid method, though we will adhere to curriculum to be sure that we are thorough and you receive a complete music education. For Piano students: I teach from Faber and Faber (age appropriate volumes) and encourage a disciplined home practice routine that includes a practice log and weekly goals. Solo pieces added over time. Performances - even if only an in home recital for a few family members and friends - are encouraged about once a semester. For voice students: I teach very tailored lessons to suit individual goals, even if the goal is just to sing better in the shower. Read More

For students who are just beginning to learn guitar, aside from teaching said students how to properly hold the guitar, I provide fun single note exercises from open and first position to help them get comfortable with the top of the neck. Also teaching the students different parts/sections of the guitar (example pickups, body, neck, fretboard, nut, etc. For more advanced students I assess their skills and playability to see what they know or don't know and then work from there. Since I teach people of all ages, I have learned that I cannot simply follow one type of lesson structure. During my lessons I learn about not just the talent a person has but also about the person themselves. Therefore, each lesson plan is tailored specific to that individual. For piano ages 7-12: I typically start with Primer Piano Adventures or Level 1. I also use Keith Snell Scale Skill Levels for skill and chord practices which is helpful for all kinds of music! For guitar and ukulele: Hal Leonard guitar and ukulele method. These books also teach reading the notes in sheet music and understanding how to play them on the guitar or ukulele, as well as including a tab. Read More
