Once we've established a basic working of character and music theory we will begin to learning the anatomy of our instruments and how to handle and care for them. Now the fun part begins. Much of my lesson plan is specific to the age, experience, desire and ability of the student, but the basics tend to remain the same. I try to craft dexterity and melodic exercises to unite the ear and fingers, while crating a basic understanding of the theory involved, a rhythmic exercise which teaches comping and time, and assign a song to work on between lessons. I create my own custom lesson plans based on the needs and goals of each student. Usually, when a student first comes to my studio I listen to them sing a series of exercises and then a song so that I can get a good idea of where they are in their vocal development. I usually begin teaching fundamentals of breath and posture and resonant space in the first few lessons, but then build upon that with specific exercises and repertoire that fits each student's needs. I love seeing my students find a love for music and develop skills they never thought they had. I love seeing them recognize how difficult singing is, but that they can do it. I love working one-on-one with my students and developing a relationship with them so I can better teach them and understand how they work as a person. I like to establish realistic smaller goals for them and help them to accomplish those goals one by one and add on harder things as they grow in skill. Read More

Since each student begins and progresses at a differing pace, I strive to create realistic goals for each student at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments along the way always help to improve their desire to learn more. My goal is for the student to enjoy the learning experience as much as I enjoy the teaching experience!
