I myself am a music student on my way to study at University of Alabama for a Bachelor's in Music Education. I have been privately instructing students of all ages for a full three years, starting when I was fifteen. I never turn down an opportunity to perform, and have played in multiple orchestras, symphonic bands, jazz bands, and marching bands. A passion for learning music is never something that can be forced. Therefore, when teaching a student, I never force them to achieve unattainable goals. I encourage them to learn at their own pace with "stepping-stone" goals; my students learn rudiments that build onto progressively more advanced techniques! I will also look at songs pertaining to their chosen instrument and their current proficiency at said instrument. With a teacher-mom, I believe my teaching experience started as soon as I could wrangle the attention of my little sister or stuffed animals. Officially I did some tutoring and a pre-teacher program in high school, along with some volunteering at after school programs. I also tutored and taught private lessons while in college. In my student teaching semester, I taught P-12 music classes including band and music appreciation. After college I spent ten years with a Christian camping organization where I taught as well. I love when a student is excited coming to their lesson and learning! My style is simple. I am very hands on but I do believe in effective learning. I Expect my students to practice. I am told that I am hard at times but I just believe in giving your level best! No practice doesn't make perfect but it does make successful and competent musicians.
