For piano students I usually use Piano Adventures method books while supplementing with scales, pop and classical repertoire, theory, ear training, history and more. For ukulele and guitar we focus on strumming patterns, rhythm, chords, and repertoire anywhere from rock or pop to classical. If the student is all play and fun or is all work, I adapt to whatever they feel within themselves and follow that. If a parent is forcing a child to learn without them enjoying it I will notice and will always find a way to create a middle ground as I can offer many different forms of exploration towards a skill. In other words, I recommend allowing your child to choose what they wanna learn and trust the process as I believe if someone truly enjoys something and is passnate about they will show sufficient improvement overall in music and in life.
