I customize each of my lessons to fit the needs of each particular student. I take into account the goals of each student, and this is something we will discuss regularly. We will typically spend some time on various technical exercises and studies, and then work on different pieces that we will choose together. I always like to hear if there is a certain piece that the student would like to play and will try to incorporate this into our plan. Read More

For Beginning piano students, I often use the Piano Adventures series. For younger beginners, I tend to enjoy The Music Tree books. For intermediate students, I like the Celebration Series. For beginning violin and viola students, I use All for Strings first, then followed by I Can Read Music paired with Suzuki Book 1. As students advance in their piano or string studies, we eventually step away from method books and study staple, classic repertoire by composers such as Mozart, Beethoven, and Bach. for each lesson, I write custom lessons plans based on the student's needs and interests. The youngest student in my studio was 6 six years old, while the oldest was 83. I do encourage a regular practice routine for all my students and work to inspire them to move to the next level as needed. Read More

A typical lesson starts off with 2-3 scales for warm-ups, partially to get a feel for where our minds and bodies are for the day (because every lesson is different). Then I usually like to go into some technical work that pertains to what our goals are for technique, and the rest of the lesson is more dependent on what the student would like to do, as it is their lesson, not mine. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
