Hi! My name is Lauryn L. and I am 19. Right now I go to BYU, and I am studying Viola Performance. I started viola in 6th grade and have been playing ever since. From 10th grade to 12th grade I went to the Gifted Music School Conservatory in SLC. I graduated from there last year. I have been able to work with many professional musicians through this music school. My favorite memories from my music experience so far was playing in Abravanel Hall with the Lyceum Philharmonic Orchestra, and playing 2 outdoor concerts at Thanksgiving Point Ashton Gardens with them as well. As a section leader and concert mistress in my high school's orchestra, I was responsible in helping my teammates learn the music and practice for performances. Developing proper techniques, rhythm, and focusing on problem areas in regular practice sessions are important points I help students work through. Whether it be private lessons for individual improvement and solo pieces or multiple people in an ensemble, the basic skills are important in conveying the meaning and emotions of a piece of music. I use the Suzuki Method throughout my teaching process. I think it is a great bases for teaching the techniques necessary to master the violin/viola. I also use various scale books (according to level) to teach note reading, sight reading, and basic music theory. Each student in my studio is required to work on a technique (scales, etc.) and one to two solo pieces. Along with this, majority of my students perform with orchestras in schools or the community. I began teaching lessons at age 14 to young neighborhood beginners. As I progressed through the years, I expanded my range of student ability from beginner to upper intermediate, and from ages 6 to... well, older than me and I'm now 60! I have taught hundreds of students and enjoyed every one of them. I find that the more effort, especially in consistent and efficient practice (to be explained and demonstrated by me), that my students put in, the more pleasure and satisfaction they get out of it!
