My lessons are structured with attention paid to the fundamentals of each instrument and the fundamentals of music. I have learned that when a student practices a mistake over and over it remains a mistake. I immediately slow the student down and concentrate on just a measure or even two notes to accomplish correct rhythm, fingerings, articulations and phrasing. I use the Suzuki method for violin and the Alfred curriculum for piano. The Suzuki Method really focuses on the ability to train the ear first before reading music. I believe it is important to teach music reading skills as well as playing by ear. I am most qualified to teach violin and viola, but I am also comfortable teaching beginning piano.
